Immerse yourself in the landscape of Iona

Welcome! We are open all year, but what we offer has changed.

In order to work within the current government guidelines we are now offering two new accommodation options instead of the much loved hostel.

This will be the case until at least March 2021, and we're keeping the situation under constant review.

Option 1

Exclusive use of the Hostel…

  • The entrance to Iona Hostel
  • Sunset at Iona Hostel
  • The front door of Iona Hostel
  • A comfortable chair at Iona Hostel
  • Mugs hanging in the kitchen of Iona Hostel
  • Hebridean Sheep at Iona Hostel

In its current guise, the Hostel is suitable for up to six guests, from one familiy or social 'bubble'.

You’ll have two bedrooms at your disposal: one of which has four bunk beds and one which has six bunk beds.
Bed linen and duvets are provided.

You'll also have use of the hostel's main kitchen/common room and two shower rooms.

WiFi is available throughout the hostel.

  • Prices, availiability & more details
The price for hiring the hostel during September and October is £250 per night with a minimum stay of three nights. From November until the end of February (apart from Christmas and New Year) the price will be £150 per night. The Hostel is available for group bookings for Christmas and New Year. Each three night (minimum) stay is priced at £950 with additional nights being £150.
Government regulations currently allow us to welcome a maximum of six guests from one family or social ‘bubble’. As and when government regulations relax and we can welcome more guests the price, per night, will increase to reflect any increase in guest numbers.

    Hostel Availability

More information about the hostel can be found here.

"A simple elegance of old and new, it speaks of generosity, of quality, as if saying 'the best for our guests'."

Option 2

The Snug and/or The Bothy…

Suitable for two people, the Snug is a self-contained apartment adjoining the main hostel building with its own private access.

It consists of a twin/double bedroom, shower room and kitchen/diner.
Bed linen and duvets are provided.

Book the Snug on its own to sleep two, or combined with the Bothy to accommodate a group of up to four, in total.

  • Prices, availiability & more details
The Snug can either be booked on its own or with the Bothy which sleeps a further single or couple. Likewise, if you want to book the Bothy alone but with the private use of the Snug facilities (kitchen/shower room) then you can.

Single occupancy for the Snug or Bothy is £75.00 per night and for two guests £90.00 per night.

If you book both the Snug and the Bothy (sleeping four) the price is £160.00 per night. There is a minimum stay of three nights.

The Snug is available all year but the Bothy is closed from early November to early March.

The Snug can be booked via Airbnb here.

For any enquiry relating to the Bothy, please get in touch with John via the Contact Form below.

“What can I say? This is travelling at it's finest. It's because of places like this that you trudge through everything else - but the best part was the people.”

A haven at the north end of Iona.

  • A Corncrake at Iona Hostel
  • Two friends sitting on the beach at Iona Hostel
  • The road to Iona Hostel
  • The Bothy at Iona Hostel

Iona is the perfect place for an island gathering of clans, families and friends.
The Hostel, Snug and Bothy are all off the beaten track (Lagandorain is the last house at the North End before the sea) and it is only a three minute walk across the grass to the beach. It is a stunningly beautiful location. Iona Hostel cares about the land and has been awarded various environmental awards over the years.

The croft extends to sixty acres and reaches from the highest hill on Iona to the lovely white sand beach of Traigh an t-Suidhe. The land has been worked for many generations, creating the familiar Hebridean patchwork of wildflower meadow, crops and grazing land, and is home to an amazing variety of plants and birds.

A message from John, the owner…

Current events have thrown everything in the air! We can’t, for the foreseeable, open as a hostel as such and so are instead offering the property as a wonderful exclusive-use holiday let. We’ll review the situation until March 2021 by which time, we hope, we can resume hostel life. However, the friendly welcome will remain the same as ever, only now, you can close the door on the world and surround yourself with all the people who matter the most.
